A Glimpse at the UK’s Gourmet Gastropubs

Brick Oven KitchenGone are the days of greasy pub food and lacklustre menus. Today’s pubs are all about offering clientele an out of this world eating experience. If you love to dabble in the best cuisine the nation has to offer we’ve put together a curated collection of Britain’s gourmet gastropubs.

The Hand & Flowers

Fronted by celebrity chef Tom Kerridge, The Hand & Flowers is our undisputed top pick. The award winning two Michelin Star establishment recently scored a hat trick when it was crowned winner of the Budweiser Budvar Top 50 Gastropub Awards for the third year in a row! The prize is determined by a panel of 450 experts who were wowed by the pub’s impressive menu. With dishes titled ‘Sausage and Whole Truffle Demi “En Croute” with Port Sauce,’ ‘Fillet of Scottish Halibut with Portobello Mushroom Puree, Crispy Beef Suet and Early Season Parsnip,’ and ‘Tonka Bean Panna Cotta with Poached Rhubarb, Ginger Wine Jelly and Rhubarb Sorbet’ it’s not hard to see why this pub’s prize cabinet is bursting at the seams!

The Pony & Trap – Bristol

This Chew Magna establishment has held a Michelin Star since 2011, treating punters to top notch eats, a 200 year old heritage building and a picturesque location in Bristol’s countryside. The Pony & Trap is overseen by Josh and Holly Eggleton, a pair of siblings with a passion for food. It attracts locals and pub pilgrims alike with its ever changing menu featuring local and seasonal ingredients.

Treby Arms – Devon

For fine dining in the heart of Devon the Treby Arms is a ‘must visit’ eatery. The kitchen is commandeered by 2012 Masterchef winner Anton Piotrowski who creates traditional ‘pub grub’ with a sophisticated twist. The beautifully appointed interior creates a rustic yet stylish atmosphere while Piotrowski’s menu offers punters irresistible creations and a killer Sunday lunch!

The Alford Arms – Hemel Hempstead

With fabulous food and a friendly atmosphere, The Alford Arms caters for couples, friends and families alike. This gem is nestled in secluded woodlands and boasts a menu of classic pub dishes, unique creations and international inspiration.

The Star Inn – Harome

Located in a historic thatched inn, this pub is perfect for those on the search for old world atmosphere with a contemporary twist. The boutique style pub has been awarded its very own Michelin star and serves up enticing dishes with a focus on seasonal ingredients such as Esk Valley game and North Sea fish.
